Forty years of experience in research, development and teaching in material science/solid state physics/polymer physics/ carbon black industry including doctoral research. 4 years of industrial experience while working as assistant manager (R&D) in Carbon and Chemicals (India) Ltd (presently Philips Carbon, Cochin). Interests include nanomagnetic materials, magnetic nanocomposites, magnetic amorphous thin films, magnetic elastomers, ferrofluids and conducting polymers. Actively involved in research in the area of using carbon black in composites for making stealth materials and also for preparing composites for aerospace applications. Well versed with the process/production and quality control of various types of carbon black (quality control of feed stock and finished products). Published 200 papers in reputed, national and international journals and over 160 presentations in seminars/symposium and owner of 3 Indian Patents. Teaching postgraduate students, guiding doctoral candidates and other researchers for over 30 years. Worked at the Technical University of Eindhoven, The Netherlands as a Postdoctoral Fellow for an year during 1993-94 on a BOYSCAST Fellowship awarded by the Government of India. Currently leading several sponsored research programs in the Department of Physics in the area of Solid-state physics and material science. Received M.Sc degree in physics from the University of Bhopal, India in 1979 and Ph.D from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India in 1985 and also carried out postdoctoral research at the Technical University of Eindhoven, The Netherlands. Also a visiting professor at the Rice University,Houston USA , University of Konstanz,Germany, Technical University of Chemnitz, Germany, University of Augsburg,Germany,Toyo University, Japan, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore,FermiLab,USA and Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. Guided 29 Ph.D students and 3 post doctoral students to the successful completion of their degrees. Guided around 50 M.Phil. candidates to the successful completion of the research requirements for the award of the degrees. Currently guiding nine candidates towards Ph.D. degrees. Current interest is in the frontier area of nanoscience and nanotechnology, polymer physics and Bionanomaterials. Was a member of the Syndicate (Governing Council), Senate and Academic Council of the Cochin University of Science and Technology. Also Chairman, Board of Studies in NanoScience, Cochin University of Science and Technology and member of the Board of Studies in Physics, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Cochin, India, Board of Studies in Nanotechnology, Calicut University, Calicut, Kerala, India, Board of Studies in NanoScience, Kerala University, Trivandrum, India and Board of Studies in Physics, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, India.
